To Be Thoughtful

Jakob once told me,

“The first time your attitude came out at me, I have to admit, I asked God ‘Really? This is my wife?’”

Praise God he did not instead say, “peace out girl, you got some stuff to work through”.

I have often struggled with attitude. While the teenage Bekah would have justified it as “being blunt” or “being real” with you, I can now see that it was not a good look, and it is still not when it decides to show its face.

It had plagued me enough; something needed to change.

I began to recognize, attitude is a choice.

It is an active decision following every single breath you take.

The battle begins with your thoughts.

Two of my favorite quotes are,

“Take every thought captive” and

“… For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.”

Your words are simply your thoughts in existence.

There is not a single person that can hear your inner dialogue.

That voice inside your head is the best tool you can use.

It is a source to catch yourself, check yourself, and change gears accordingly.

Our world leeches on instant gratification and in that, a quick tongue comes very naturally.

Stop. Give yourself 5 seconds.

If that piece of food has 5 seconds to lay on the floor before it is decidedly trash, you can give your words 5 seconds to be considered before giving them oxygen.

You might think, “5 seconds is a long pause, people will think I am weird”.

Well then, ask yourself this question…

“Would I rather be awkward alongside thoughtful, or impulsive and regretful?”

I hope that question does not need to take even 5 seconds to answer.

Let’s alter the world by starting with one thought at a time.

I dare you to be thoughtful.
